Collin and Liz met while attending the University of Iowa. They lived in the same dorm freshman year but stayed just friends until sophomore year. They were both living in Iowa City for the summer and reconnected at a mutual friends' get together where the love story begins.
In the time they spent together, much of it was outdoors. They enjoyed taking walks, hitting the beach and swimming at the lake, and biking through the city in the middle of the night. However, not every outdoor excursion ended successfully. Their very first camping trip was interrupted by a heavy thunderstorm and they were forced to evacuate their tent after a ranger informed them of the danger. They returned to the campsite the next morning where they discovered a raccoon had taken their place and feasted on all of the food they'd brought.
Their journeys grew from the small campgrounds in Iowa to bigger and better adventures! While visiting the Smoky Mountains National Park, they crossed paths with the Appalachian Trail and fell in love with the idea of a through hike. They quickly made plans to accomplish the trek and, after graduation, they moved to a neighboring town of Coralville and worked to save money for the trip.
When the spring of 2014 came, it was time to begin the journey of hiking the AT. It was a trip full of new experiences for both Liz and Collin, and they had an amazing adventure together. After 6 months of living out of their backpacks and hiking day after day, the trip came to an end. At the finale and the northern terminus of the AT, Mt. Katahdin, Collin asked Liz to marry him so that they could spend the rest of their lives together, exploring and traveling the wonders of the outdoors. She said yes, and they celebrated with both of their families in Maine.
But, they weren't ready to get married just yet. They moved to Portland, Maine post-trail to spend time exploring the mountains and seas of the northeastern US. After two and a half year of hiking in the White Mountains, paddling in Casco Bay and eating all the lobster, they decided it was time for a change of scenery and went westward to live in Seattle, Washington.
An epic road trip across the country led them to Seattle where they settled in and planned to tackle another long trail, the Pacific Crest. This confirmed their motto "Adventure is Better Together" which leads to their next undertaking... the wedding! We can't wait to see you there.
