Iowa City is the home of The University of Iowa, Liz and Collin’s alma matter. There is plenty to eat, even more to drink, and one or two interesting things to see. Here is a short list of things to occupy yourself with over the holiday weekend in Iowa City.
Iowa City Farmer’s Market: Saturday, August 31 @ 7:30-12PM
Food stands/trucks, music, people watching
405 E Washington Street
FRYfest: An annual celebration of everything "Hawkeyes" takes place at the Coralville Landing before the football game. If you bleed black and gold, and love being around tons of people-- this is the place for you!
Iowa VS. Miami Ohio: Saturday, August 31st @ 6:30PM
Likely, the most “Iowa City” thing to do - drink, tailgate and visit historic Kinnick Stadium to cheer on the Hawkeyes as they beat up the Redhawks in the FRYfest game! *Beware the streets, bars and restaurants will be crowded!
University of Iowa Campus:
Head to the Pedestrian Mall for great restaurants, bars, shops, street art, and people watching! Other sights include the Museum of Natural History.
Our Favorite Restaurants:
Sams Pizza (pizza)
The Vine (best wings in Iowa City)
Shorts (burgers and fries)
Big Grove Brewing (best beer experience)
The Mill (local dive)
Happy Hour at The Saloon (chips, salsa, and margs)
Bluebird Diner (brunch)
Iowa River Power Restaurant (fancy brunch)
Cure your Hangover at Hamburg Inn
Fin & Feather H2O offers paddlesport rentals at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area
Other places to recreate include: Lake McBride, Coralville Lake and Reservoir, Devonian Fossil Gorge, Palisades-Kepler State Park.
