Heading around the Seven Lakes Basin Loop in a clock-wise direction was the best move for us as it allowed the first day to be our longest.

Bridger and Moose stop to admire one of the many stream crossings - the trail along the Sol Duc River is mild and easy going.

The trees blocked most of the rain while we were in the forest but once we got a little higher, the constant drizzle was negated by our Hyperlite Mountain Gear umbrella - a great addition to your kid-friendly setup.

Heart Lake was not our intended destination for night one but it was a sufficient one.

The trail gradually climbs after Heart Lake and the views started to become grander. High Divide Trail, Olympic National Park, Washington.

The trail follows a beautiful ridge while descending from Bogachiel Peak.

Our ultimate destination was Lunch Lake in the Seven Lakes Basin. Unfortunately, the rain picked up when we got to the trail and since we had seen the lakes from above we decided to save ourselves the loss and regain of elevation and just continue onward.

A lot of work was put in to the meticulous placement of these stepping stones, making the act of crossing this talus field quite easy.

With this outing, Bridger has visited and camped in all of Washington’s National Parks! Lucky boy.

Sol Duc Falls is a premier Olympic National Park destination that conveniently lies along the Seven Lakes Basin Loop. This was our first time seeing this unique waterfall in person.
